Conjectural Timeline of Star Trek XI

26,025 B.C.E: A rogue planet falls into a competing orbit with the planet Vulcan. The event drastically changes the Vulcan landscape as the worlds are close enough to share the orbit by revolving around each other. This event creates dramatically cold and warm seasons on both worlds. Translated as Delta Vega, the planet becomes the focal point for scientific research and inquiry. Lethal quantities of fluorine in the soil and atmosphere of the planet make colonization impossible. It does not prevent the Vulcans from attempting terra-forming efforts through the centuries, making the planet somewhat tolerable for limited habitation in modern times.

5025 B.C.E.: The ideology of Surak is rejected by a Vulcan faction. By this time interstellar travel is possible on Vulcan. Instead of imprisoning the violent faction, the matriarchal followers of Surak instead offer their older fleet of starships to the faction to establish their own colony. They are dedicated to finding a world similar to their own as the fleet sets out on a one way journey to their new home. Years later they find Tau Epsilon with twin worlds in a dual orbit. These worlds are given the phonetic equivalent names of Romulus and Remus.

The United States stretched by debt and military campaigns throughout Central America and the Mideast, is in decline economically and militarily. In a historical decision by Congress, several military installations are shut down, including the demarcation line between North and South Korea, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Germany, these areas are left to the Chinese government, now the most powerful nation on Earth. Guantanamo is ceded to Cuba.

The first commercially developed anthropomorphic robots are used in day to day life for the handicapped and elderly.

March 2035: Philosopher J.J. Abrams postulates that major paradigms in the universe are created by "grossly implausible events, and wildly unpredictable coincidences".

September 2035: As a result of a long term economic recession Lee Kuan (The Great), later known as Lee Kuan the Tyrant, claiming (but not substantiated) to be the grandson of Lee Kuan Yew, overthrows the democratic government of Singapore and establishes a military dictatorship. He breaks relations with NATO, and announces an alliance with North Korea, Vietnam, and Cambodia. By December his administration hacks in to the Chinese defense network and disrupts all operations. A faction loyal to the "Tradition" a terrorist group formed ten years earlier in China overthrows the Democratic Republic. By December North Korea Invades South Korea, and sends short range missile salvos into several South Korean military installations.

October 1st, 2036: Le Kuan declares war on the Americas and Third World War begins and ends in six days. It fortunately becomes a limited nuclear conflict, but much of the world is in a state of political disorder.

December 27th, 2036: After two prior miscarriages, Zefram Cochrane is born.

2037: Deaths from the nuclear conflict are estimated at over 600,000,000.

January 31st 2039: A massive earthquake shakes the North American Continent, creating a new fault line through the United States and Canada. In December, amidst the chaos of political disorder, and violent military factions, the American Continent Institute is created to study the fault, and the effects of the earthquake on the planet.

Following the successful invasion of Japan, Le Kuan the Great announces a United Asia that will now control all matters of World affairs from Shanghai, all non Asians are considered to be inferior, and will be dealt with as necessary.

2040: NOMAD Probe intercepts a narrow stream of strong x-rays. Following the source it discovers a miniature black hole on a highly elliptical orbit around the solar system; a closer investigation causes the probe to be presumably destroyed. It is theorized that the object may be the cause of increased seismic activity throughout the Solar System. Military genetic experiments are leaked to the government press.

2041: Beginning of the "post atomic horror". Le Kuan’s army invades California, British Columbia, and Alaska. European military governments vie for control of the North American continent while leaders, scientists, and other prospective "targets" run into hiding. President Green’s son leads a resistance movement with a government sponsored para-military group.

Radiation and a greenhouse effect have created much cooler temperatures planet wide. Winters are brutal, and cause many deaths, as well as residual radiation in the atmosphere. Poverty and famine plague much of the civilized world. Global terrorists launch neutron bomb salvos into Europe and Israel, killing millions. Colonel Green declares military rule and his armies dominates the continent. The Continents of Africa, Western Asia, and South America are largely preserved, and receive millions of refugees.

2042-2056: The Global Dark Age.

2060: In Colorado and parts of the West Coast of the former United States, a political reconstruction takes place. Europe’s cities are becoming habitable following several neutron bomb attacks. London and Paris are remarkably preserved. San Francisco, the one Western city still heavily populated, is declared ground zero for a new world order. Thousands of Asian refugees flock to the west coast of the United States and Canada seeking sanctuary.

2063: Zefram Cochrane, originally part of a development team for an anti-matter bomb, creates the first warp drive spacecraft, the Phoenix, and engages in a successful test flight. The warp signature is detected by a Vulcan intelligence gathering mission and first contact is made.

2064: In a highly unexpected move, the Vulcans share several important technologies with a human industrial consortium to allow long term spaceflight capability; namely the mathematics associated with controlling the graviton, the formulas for controlling the fifth force, and mass cancellation in normal space. This knowledge quickly leads to artificial and anti-gravity systems, anti acceleration technology, and force fields in the coming years. The lead organization of the consortium is Dyson Yoyodyne systems.

2065: The drug treatment Hyronalin is developed, a complex molecular enzyme that promotes cellular reconstruction. Zefram Cochrane, among millions of others, is cured of various forms of cancer, and radiation sickness is now considered reversible. This new lease on life is, as with many other individuals, is emotionally transforming for Cochrane, it is at this time that Cochrane’s most inspiring essays on hope and the human condition are written. Cochrane’s excessive use of split infinitives, dangling modifiers, and other traditional grammatical errors is accepted by the literary community as the "Cochrane Style" of writing.

2065-2066: Two manned earth probes based on Vulcan warp technology are launched from earth orbit. With modest crews and provisions for a flight that will take several years, two expeditions are cited for the ships. The Space Ship Valiant is sent on a one way mission to the Galaxy’s edge parallel with the galactic axis, and the Space Ship Enterprise, launched a year later is sent an a Star hopping survey mission to nearby stars beginning with Denobula.

2068: S.S. Enterprise makes first contact with inhabitants of Denobula.

The New United Nations makes what is at a times a futile attempt to retrace the national borders of the world before World War Three. The North American continent is restored politically, but the borders between Canada and Central America are much weaker than before, lawlessness and political factions still permeate the American landscape.

2069: The United States of Africa declares its sovereignty from the world government. An internal Revolt on several Asian states overthrows factions of "The Tradition." However Lee Kuan still retains power and influence in several Asian provinces.

2070-2071: Zefram Cochrane builds the Bonaventure, a much larger and more powerful version of the Phoenix which incorporates new technologies. His first mission is to the third planet orbiting Alpha Centauri.

November 4, 2071: Chinese nationalists attempt a coup in California to establish a separate Asian nation, the coup is thwarted by Eastern Alliance remote air strikes.

January 2073: After their former collapse, NASA and the ESA are reestablished and reorganized to begin a new joint project, a second civilian lunar colony of 50 established in the Sea of Tranquility; the project sets a precedent for interplanetary colonization.

May 2073: A new type of nuclear drilling device is created, and as a result an international effort begins, to unite the Earth in transportation and safety from radiation by creating a global subterranean shuttle system.

2079: NASA Scientist Dylan Hunt begins "Project Ganymede"; The first experiment with stasis hibernation. Hunt, his fellow scientists and laboratory are presumed destroyed in an earthquake.

2083: Mars settled with their first colony of 24 humans, insects, various algae, and seeds. From here protocols and procedures are created for interstellar colonization. In June the United Earth Space Probe Agency is reborn.

2085: Zefram Cochrane brings several friends and relatives on his third mission to Alpha III, and creates the first human colony on another world orbiting another star. The settlement eventually becomes the capital city of Cochrane. Cochrane establishes citizenship one year later.

2098: Earth loses contact with the Space Ship Valiant.

2086-2154: Under the supervision of UESPA, Dyson Yoyodyne manufactures a series of highly efficient interplanetary vessels incorporating state-of-the-art fusion and graviton propulsion, stasis hibernation, and artificial gravity. They are easy to maintain, and relatively inexpensive to run, opening deep space to civilian explorers, entrepreneurs and independent colonists.

2091: Colonel Green is captured and tried for war crimes following a bloody and horrific massacre on the East coast of the former United States. He escapes with the assistance of several "augments," genetically modified humans trained in secret to essentially take over the world’s governments. Green is killed in the process of the escape. Khan Noonian Singh announces his declaration of a New Order, while several augments almost simultaneously seize power around the world. Lee Kuan is assassinated in the transition.

2092: North America becomes unrecognizable to its original form only fifty years before, and is fragmented into thousands of hamlets, and struggling feudal city states.

The Vulcan Ambassadorship leaves Earth, and the world again stands in a state of terror.

2092-2095: Pogroms, death squads, and concentration camps on an unprecedented scale are created to control the world’s population. Total control is impossible to the total collapse of various global communications networks. However, the technological advances of the day allow for an obscure global underground movement to organize, and a revolt is planned.

2096: In the bloody revolt, "normals" manage to overthrow most of the augment leadership, and the age of the Supermen ends with the capture of Khan Singh, the most powerful and notorious of the augments. Unfortunately, Kahn Singh and a number of other augments escape and disappear in spite of an exhaustive global manhunt.

2097: Many parts of human civilization continue to isolated, and fragmented, primarily as a result of environmental and economic conditions created by past conflicts. A diligent effort begins in order to make contact with the isolated areas, but the process will take more than three decades. However space exploration continues as space explorers are forced to survive independently from the Earth.

2098: Vulcan ambassadors return to Earth. Subspace Communication is introduced.

2099: Before his mysterious disappearance aboard the Bonaventure, Zefram Cochrane writes his last scientific paper on "trans-warp" theory.

2105: The "stator" is invented. A practical breakthrough in the development of artificial gravity systems aboard spacecraft eventually drives starship design nomenclature to spheroid, disc, and saucer shapes.

2133: Dylan Hunt is discovered and revived by members of a small augment controlled city state in New Mexico called Tyrania, he is liberated by a civilian resistance movement called Pax.

2136: A public declaration is made that the post-atomic horror has ended and a new age of mankind has begun, and the age preceding it is commonly referred to as "Old-Earth." The Vulcan embassy agrees to expand relations with Earth to more than just an advisory capacity.

2141: NX-Program launched. Earth integrates the United Earth Space Probe Agency into a new organization called Star Fleet Command. The move is condemned and criticized by Earth scientists around the globe, but continues under the New Earth Government.

2150: Nadion technology is developed on a small scale.

2151: The first product of the NX Program the Warp-5 capable vessel Enterprise is launched on an extended survey mission. Captain Archer, and his department heads set protocols and rules that become standard procedures in Starfleet’s future. Unknown vessels later categorized as Romulan, attack several earth ships in the last months of the year. First contact with Klingon Empire. First contact with Xindi. First human matter transport.

2252: Universal Translator is invented.

2152-2154: Earth/Xindi conflict.

2155-2060: Earth-Romulan War. A deliberate attack on Alpha III and Terra Nova leads to a declaration of War against the Romulan Star Empire. Star Fleet Command is at the forefront of Earth’s first interplanetary war. Almost nothing is known about the Romulans, and intelligence gathering is difficult. Romulan ships have invisibility screens, and possess no warp signature, yet are capable of interstellar flight. They are slow in maneuvering, and carry weapons that are primitive even to Star Fleet. Communication is elusive, and no visual communication is permitted. Denobula offers Humanitarian assistance, while Vulcan offers strategic advice, but both choose to not be directly involved in the fight.

Tellar and Andor assist in a loose alliance. The Klingon Empire, Orion Colonies, and other worlds consider the conflict to be too distant to get involved, even though trade between the Earth and other systems are significantly squelched.

Within five years the Romulan Star Empire surrenders by way of subspace radio and concedes to a treaty creating a neutral zone to the dimensions demanded by Star Fleet. It is an invisible curtain of space that runs vertically through the entire galactic plane. Several star systems under Romulan control are surrendered to the Terran side of the Neutral Zone. Many of the habitable systems are colonized by humans in the coming years. For the Romulans, what was supposed to be a routine military campaign turns into a humiliating defeat.

March 2161: A protest group and Romulan War Veterans bring a series of accusations to the New United Nations charging, in summary, that Vulcan intervention in Earth’s affairs was deliberate in order to use humans as unwitting conscripts for an interplanetary war they did not want to fight themselves. While conspiracy theorists support the charge, a more rational majority accepts the Vulcan denials. However, a general distrust of Vulcans permeates human society.

The United Federation of Planets is established in San Francisco. 6 Charter worlds and 12 associate worlds sign on. Romulus, in a state of economic and political disarray following the war, is silent on the matter. The Klingon Empire concludes that its very existence is a major threat to galactic peace, as well as the Empire and should be destroyed. The controversial political attacks are not limited to the Klingons as Humans or "Earthers" are held at best with suspicion and at worst with contempt by Star-faring races that are much older and in some cases, more advanced than Earth. This fact makes the idea of "full integration" aboard Starfleet vessels difficult at best, making humans the largest contributor to Star Fleet personnel.

2185: The design and construction of starships and space stations becomes a key industry within the solar system, making earth-based designs dominant within Alpha and Beta Quadrants.

2204-2214: Federation-Klingon Conflict. The Empire concedes to a stalemate but sacrifices control of several "useless and troublesome" systems. Other systems are in dispute, including Capella and Troyius which are both deep within the Federation territory. A border is drawn in interstellar space between the two factions, but while Starfleet honors the treaty, the Klingons become notorious for constantly violating it. It is following this that the Federation is regarded as a major player in Galactic affairs.

January 2215: One of the first privately funded deep space expeditions in many years is sponsored by the American Continent Institute. The S.S. Columbia is launched from earth to survey unusual solar systems beyond the Federation frontier.

June 2215: Janeway Development Corporation begins construction of the first "Arcology"; loosely based on the concepts created by Paolo Solieri more than a century earlier, an entire community of thousands are housed in a single mega structure approximately a kilometer in height.

2216: A starship detects a regular subspace pulse from a micro-quasar near the outer frontier of the galaxy known as Murasaki 312, A fleet-wide experiment reveals that the subspace pulses are detected almost simultaneously at all points of known space with no appreciable time dilation. Decay variances in the pulses are also detected, which are later used as a form of time correction aboard starships. These subspace pulses are slow, but equal to about one pulse per earth second 1:983753. This is used for time keeping purposes on starships within months. The counting of these groups of pulses is referred to as star hours, and the measuring is referred to as the Star Date.

2221: As the years progress new warp drive engines allow for super sized starships hundreds of meters in length, and crews of several hundred, dramatically increasing the demand for quality recruits. Humans are still the dominant species recruited. Human ambassadors charge non-human members with not supporting their obligations to Starfleet.

2222: The Starfleet system of star-dating is adapted by other non-aligned star-faring races that trade or are in regular contact with the Federation. Earth is established as the galactic meridian. By triangulating between Earth and the Murasaki quasar it becomes possible to determine not only a standard time reference, but also approximate location and time in normal space.

The "Janeway Arcology" is now a common structure throughout the Earth, and her colonies.

2228: First experimentation with "Transtator" Physics.

Starfleet intelligence intercepts a report to the Klingon High Council regarding a "most heinous and corrupting vice" by Klingon youths, particularly among the nobility; it is the translating and reading of smuggled Earth classical literature.

2230.04: George Kirk sacrifices himself and saves 800 lives, including his son, James T. Kirk.

Many parts of the Earth are still in a recovery process. Some of the excavations during the construction of the global sub-shuttle network, lay abandoned and exposed throughout much of the world, as shuttlecraft, and graviton vehicles are favored over the now primitive form of transportation. New Russia, and Midwest America is still in a state of economic, and environmental blight.

Earth cosmologists concede that life is the rule in the universe rather than the exception, and even more amazing, humanoids appear to be the dominant sentient species in both quadrants of the galaxy.

2245: First successful Transwarp Drive breakthrough. With this new technology the "time barrier" is broken and distances between nearby stars are now minutes away, instead of hours or days. Protests from within and without the Federation occur due to this discovery by the "reckless and violent" humans, in turn allowing humans to have an unfair advantage in galactic affairs. While it is assured that the technology will be limited to capital ships only within Star Fleet, peace in the galaxy is now more volatile than ever.

2247: Due to its simplicity and fast learning curve among sentient races, "Fedari" commonly recognized as English is accepted as the standard language of trade and commerce within Federation space. It is seconded only by Klingonese for its popularity in interstellar trade and relations.

2248: First contact with the planet Ardana. Ardana becomes the 50th developed world to be contacted by Federation representatives and 39th advanced civilization to be catalogued as humanoid. There is a particular interest among Federation scientists in Ardana’s mastery of gravity nullification.

2249-2251: New breakthroughs in graviton technology, as well as the discovery of Tritanium and Rodinium elements may allow a starship of a very large size to be constructed on the surface of a planet. It is dismissed by Starfleet command as impractical, but is considered by the Andorians.

2252: Several Starfleet ships are retrofitted with transwarp drive.

2255: The Andorians successfully launch a 500,000 metric ton starship from the surface of their home world. Their balance sheet shows the savings in transportation, and resources revealing the practicality of such a feat. Star Fleet Command is persuaded to commission the Constitution Class to be built on the surface of the planet Mars at Utopia Planitia. The challenge is broadened when at the last minute the second Constitution Class commission is switched to the Star Fleet scrap yards in Iowa on Earth.

2256: Experimentation with "Hyperwave" a type of transwarp communication system is introduced.

2258: The U.S.S. Enterprise is the first fully assembled Federation starship to be launched from the surface of a planet since the end of the 21st Century. The 725 meter behemoth is one of the largest and the most advanced starships in the fleet, and first to integrate (rather than retrofit) transwarp drive.

The Vulcan home world is destroyed by an unnatural spacial anomaly, its sister planet, Delta Vega shifts in its orbit, creating a more earth-like world over the next several decades. The first human warp matter transport is executed, defying all known laws of transtator, and subspace technology.

James T. Kirk at age 28 is promoted to the rank of captain and assigned the Starship Enterprise. It is the shortest transition to a command position in Starfleet history. Starfleet Academy instructor Benjamin Finney and fellow cadet Bruce Finnegan circulate a petition for a recall on the promotion, despite their impassioned efforts; they come up short by several signatures.

A Vulcanoid being called "Ambassador Spock," who is allegedly from another universe, makes the declaration that travel between parallel universes is possible as well as time travel.

…and a whole new universe of adventure continues!

(Theory by Chris Boucher)
